Metroid Dread was a huge surprise in 2021. Turning up at Nintendo’s E3 presentation, the 2D platformer had been rumoured for many years, so to see a brand new iteration of the Metroid franchise was already surprising, but one called Metroid Dread? Well, our minds were blown.
Luckily, Nintendo spoiled us rotten with the release, bringing out special editions for the game and some rather spiffy looking amiibo to celebrate the title. These little figures can help you out in the game, and Metroid Dread is even compatible with older Metroid series amiibo, such as the Super Smash Bros line of figures and those released alongside Metroid: Samus Returns. Of course, with so many figures comes a lot of different options, so we’ll explain them here with our Metroid Dread amiibo guide.
You’re going to need those fancy figures as well, because Metroid Dread is tough as nails. Brutal bosses and endless waves of enemies are tucked away in every dark corner, so if you have one of the many Metroid amiibo you had better keep them handy! Now, let us break down exactly what each amiibo does.
It’s dread simple to use your amiibo with Metroid Dread. During gameplay you need to press the – button, then select amiibo and scan your figure. Once you pick up your amiibo you have to scan it on the NFC receiver, which is located under the Nintendo Switch logo on a pro controller, and under the Home button on the right Joy-Con. Hold it there for a couple of seconds, and the device should be scanned and ready to use. Also remember, each amiibo can only be used once a day.
All amiibo unlockables
The first time you scan the Metroid Dread Samus amiibo, you’ll receive an energy tank to use in Metroid Dread, which gives you an extra 100 health points. This can only be used once, and any subsequent times you scan the amiibo will instead reward you by replenishing 200 health.
The first time you scan the E.M.M.I. amiibo you’ll receive a missile plus tank, awarding you an increased missile capacity of ten. Scanning the figure on any day after this will replenish your missile supply by 30.
